Rotary Foundation Committee
The mission of the ROTARY FOUNDATION COMMITTEE is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
Members promote The Rotary Foundation and encourage membership participation in the Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative, which encourages all Rotary club members to contribute $100 every year to help reach the goal to support the Rotary Foundation financially each year. The committee also recruits at least one new Benefactor each year, coordinate with the Public Image Committee to promote the foundation external to the club, and administer the Global Scholarship Program.
Contributions to the Annual Programs Fund through the Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative are the primary source of funding for Foundation programs, which cover more than 160 countries and geographical areas on seven continents.
The Endowment Fund of The Rotary Foundation enables individuals to combine their gifts into a significant force to address the world’s greatest needs for generations to come. This includes Planned Giving such as the Benefactor and Bequest programs.
The most visible aspect of The Rotary Foundation is to Eradicate Polio worldwide. October 24th is World Polio Day, a focus globally on the need to rid the world of this paralyzing childhood virus. The Plattsburgh Rotary Club has been engaged in suppport this effort since it's inception in the 1980s and will continue to do so with unique fundraisers and personak donations until the virus is gone forever!
PAUL HARRIS FELLOW COMMITTEE The highest form of recognition a Rotary Club can bestow is the Paul Harris Fellow. It is presented to a Rotarian or a member of the community who has made an outstanding contribution to the community. Members of this committee recommend to the Board the name(s) of those chosen to be recognized as Paul Harris Fellows. The distinctive Paul Harris Fellow medallion, lapel pin, and certificate have become highly respected symbols of a recipient's contribution to The Rotary Foundation and /or Rotary’s mission through service at the local, national and/or international level.
